The wedding industry has become incredibly good at preparing couples for a wedding.

We talk endlessly about the dress. The florals. The table linens. The seating chart. The perfect timeline. The first look. The content creator. The spray tan. The skincare routine. The Botox appointment. The Pinterest boards. The reels we'll post before the day's even over.

None of these things are inherently wrong.

Beauty has always had a place in celebration.

Scripture is filled with examples of intentional craftsmanship, meaningful feasts, and sacred gatherings prepared with great care. Beauty reflects the creativity of our Creator.

But somewhere along the way, we've become experts at preparing for a single day while spending very little time preparing for the thousands of days that follow.

The marriage.

As a wedding photographer, I spend more time observing a wedding day than almost anyone else in the room.

I watch fathers trying to hold back tears as they see their daughters in a wedding dress they once imagined buying for a little girl.

I watch mothers quietly fastening necklaces while remembering years of bedtime prayers.

I watch grandparents who have weathered decades together smile as they witness another generation beginning the same covenant.

I watch friends who have walked through heartbreak, college, career changes, and countless ordinary Tuesdays gather to celebrate something extraordinary.

And every time I photograph a beautifully designed reception, I'm reminded that the details are serving something much greater.

The linens aren't the point.

They become the place where generations gather around stories.

The carefully chosen chairs will hold the people who prayed for this couple long before they ever met.

The florals decorate the room where lifelong friendships are celebrated.

The candles illuminate conversations filled with wisdom, laughter, and blessing.

The details matter because they create space for people.

And people matter because marriage was never meant to be lived alone.

A wedding is one of the few moments where nearly everyone who has helped shape two lives gathers in one room.

That's sacred.

The celebration isn't simply about how beautiful everything looks.

It's about witnessing two people make a covenant before God and before the community that will continue walking alongside them long after the flowers have wilted and the photographs have been delivered.

I hope we never lose that.

I hope we stop measuring weddings by how viral the content becomes or how impressed people are by the luxury details.

I hope brides feel more freedom to pursue peace than perfection.

I hope grooms feel less pressure to perform and more freedom to be present.

I hope couples spend as much time preparing their hearts as they do planning their reception.

Because twenty years from now, your children won't remember the shade of your napkins.

They'll remember how you loved each other.

The photographs I create are meant to preserve the beauty of your wedding day.

But my deepest hope is that when you look back through your gallery decades from now, you won't simply remember what your wedding looked like.

You'll remember what you promised.

You'll remember the people who stood beside you.

You'll remember the covenant you entered.

And you'll smile because your marriage became even more beautiful than your wedding day ever was.

That is the story worth preserving.
